Economic Peace Day: Reinventing ourselves to preserve nature

This day, dedicated to Economic Peace, focuses on major environmental and societal issues, and compares them to the models of society and organizations of today and tomorrow. This unique event, held by videoconference, is expected to involve around 50 speakers from all backgrounds.

The Economic Peace Day will focus on the central theme of global warming and the environmental emergency. The discussions will highlight the way in which all citizens, including the players in organizations, are already working on these issues: what initiatives, conducive to sustainable development, are being implemented in the field? What are the obstacles to overcome and the facilitating factors? How can future managers be trained to deal with the issue of transition? In short, how can humanity reinvent other models of growth, by choosing to be at peace with Nature?

Three plenary conferences and nine workshops

Organizations, students, teachers, and local and regional authorities will exchange remotely, to share new solutions, dedicated to economic peace – one of the five Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), promoted in the framework of the French Law on the growth and transformation of companies (PACTE law). "In fact, the Economic Peace Day responds to the urgent need to inspire, reflect together and open up new concrete perspectives that will allow us to develop an economy at peace with Nature," emphasizes Odile Gruet, project manager in charge of organizing the event at GEM. In addition to the plenary sessions, the focus will be on collaboration workshops, centered on school/company testimonials. "  

Three plenary conferences will be held to mark the Economic Peace Day, including an opening conference attended by Eric Piolle, Mayor of Grenoble, Dominique Steiler, Director of the Research chair in Economic Peace, Loïck Roche, Dean and Director of Grenoble Ecole de Management, Camille Etienne, spokesperson for the "On Est Prêt" movement and Christophe Ferrari, President of Grenoble Alpes Metropole.

Throughout the day, nine workshops and round tables will bring together various experts, professors/researchers of Economic Peace, business leaders and managers, various student associations, and the general public around one central theme: sustainable and responsible development. Digital technologies, water, law, finance, responsible purchasing and CSR are some of the themes chosen for the day.

GEM makes a commitment

In order to achieve peace with its ecosystem, Grenoble Ecole de Management promotes its core purpose: "To provide answers, through training and research, to the major challenges of the ecological, societal and economic transition and to contribute to a more resilient, fairer, more peaceful and more responsible world". (See text box).

Indeed, lest we forget that on February 25, GEM made a commitment for the future, by becoming a société à mission, the new model created by the PACTE law. Its Board of Directors voted unanimously in favor of this change in the articles of association, which confirms several years of commitment to society, notably through the creation of the Economic Peace Professorship. "Since 2012, in Grenoble, the research professor has based its work on economic peace, developing with organizations field alternatives to the model of hyper-competition within and between companies, against individualism and the strict pursuit of profit as the sole goal," emphasizes Odile Gruet. Since then, the work of the research professor, conducted in partnership with pioneering companies, has paved the way for respecting the individual in the company and its ecosystem, including the environment, through peaceful economic relations. "
