Economic peace: a certificate to ease work relations

Published on
16 March 2020

Sharing skills to encourage a positive transformation of management models… An ambitious goal for the new certificate “Managing transformation” at Grenoble Ecole de Management and organized by the Economic Peace Chair in collaboration with La Fabrique Spinoza. At its heart, is a focus on uniting human factors and sustainable performance.

The Economic Peace, Mindfulness and Well-Being at Work Chair aims to break with classical, pyramidal models of management in order to liberate individual and group initiative at work. “The companies we work with are interested in resolving these issues. They have issues with how to train managers that can lead teams through a sustainable transformation that supports performance,” highlights Dominique Steiler, head of the research chair. The results of these questions was the creation of the new “Managing transformation” certificate with La Fabrique Spinoza. The program is designed to help team and project managers at organizations of all sizes and sectors.

For Alexandre Jost, founder of La Fabrique Spinoza: “This certificate is a new step in our long partnership with the Economic Peace Chair at GEM. It’s goal is to create a virtuous circle that begins with the manager changing him or herself as a means of implementing transformations within organizations.”

Increasing analytical ability, freedom and responsibility

The goal of the certificate is to deliver analytical, action-oriented and behavioural tools that will enable managers to implement an individual process for change, followed by change at the group level thanks to their new perspective.

The certificate is built around four core skill modules. These modules build upon each other in order to increase analytical abilities and encourage new management styles that support trust and continuous improvements. “It’s matter of mindfulness, the ability to see things as they truly are, to understand things from a perspective of emotional intelligence and being open to oneself as well as others,” underlines Dominique Steiler.

Promoting benevolence with a demanding nature are at the heart of the teachings: “Well-being does not mean that all is well all the time. The idea is to develop the skills that enable one to manage all types of situations, and come to decisions with freedom and responsibility.” An organization is not a separate entity, it’s part of an environment and continuously interacting with it. The end-goal of the certificate is therefore to identify the transformational factors that are inherent within the organization and how to implement the right group intelligence for sustainable performance and well-being for all participating players.

Economic peace cannot be imagined without disagreement and the right to make mistakes

“Just because nothing is wrong doesn’t mean all is well. Economic peace gives the right of disagreement. Disagreement, in all forms right up to anger, is a key source of information. The stake for a business is to feel comfortable expressing disagreement. This is a matter of confidence in oneself and others. And confidence is created by overcoming difficult situations. Thus the need for open spaces and free expression. Another condition is the right to make mistakes. Regular feedback opens the door to continuous improvement and a path towards peaceful relationships,” concludes Dominique.
