Sumitro Banerjee is Associate Professor of Marketing at Grenoble Ecole de Management (GEM) in France. He has a Ph.D. and a M.Sc. (Management) from INSEAD; Master of International Business from the Indian Institute of Foreign Trade, and Bachelor of Technology in Mining Machinery from the Indian School of Mines. Before joining GEM, he was Associate Professor at ESMT in Berlin, Germany where he was also the Ferrero Chair in International Marketing from 2012-2014 and the Program Director of the open enrollment executive education program Building Market-oriented Business; and Assistant Professor of Marketing (2004-2008) at the Martin J. Whitman School of Management at Syracuse University in New York.

His research applies micro-economics and game theory to analyze practical problems faced by managers drawing on prior of work experience in international marketing, sales, and engineering in Tata Steel and Jessop before his doctoral studies. Particular topics  include new product development and diffusion, corporate social responsibility and sales incentives, and have been published in Quantitative Marketing and Economics, International Journal of Research in Marketing, and Production and Operations Management. His teaching portfolio includes courses in strategic marketing, new products, branding among others at (E)MBA, MSc, Exec. Ed., Undergraduate levels. He has consulted or lectured in-house for ArcelorMittal, Xylem Inc. and Integration. He has also taught at HEC and ESSEC, both in Paris.
