ACADEMIC RESEARCH: The DBA (GEM), doctorate in business administration, was defended successfully Sept 3 2020. Thesis title: "French Investment Promotion Agencies: polycentric governance, neoliberal competition and ambiguous metrics". Stage 1 of the DBA was passed in December 2017. Research area : Governance and inward FDI (Foreign Direct Investment) in France. Prior to the DBA an M.PHIL was completed in 2016 with Manchester Metropolitan University, UK before continuing with the GEM DBA.
WITH GEM from 2006 to present : Faculty Member and GEM MBA Program Director, with responsibility for onsite and offsite programs, including full-time and part-time MBA programs in Grenoble, Berlin, Moscow and Georgia. Phil graduated with a B.Sc. summa cum laude in Economics from Cardiff University and an M.A. in Management Teaching from the EM Lyon/Lancaster University European Management Teaching Program. Adopting an IPE (International Political Economy) approach. Using the case method extensively, his classes confront students with public policy and strategic business issues from legal, political and economic perspectives. Within the fields of IPE and of International Business, Phil has taught the the following courses : International Trade, Geopolitics, Global Business & Macroeconomics, European Integration, the European Business Environment, Global Trade, Sourcing and Logistics in Supply Chain Management, Business in Emerging Economies. For the MBA program he takes the International Business Development elective class and the final capstone module or ‘Integrative Case'. He also contributes regularly to GEM Exec Ed delivery notably for visiting MBA groups.
Currently Phil is on the EFMD Steering Committee for their annual MBA Director's Conference and advises on content for the two day events.
Before focusing on academic activity he gained international professional experience in service and manufacturing companies in Britain, France and Italy in the IT, office equipment and tourism sectors.
