In 1993, Grenoble Ecole de Management started the first European DBA program. The school’s aim was to bridge the gap between theory and practice with a doctoral program tailored to executives’ needs. In September 2009, after delivering DBA programs for over 15 years, Grenoble Ecole de Management opened a PhD in Business Administration program in Grenoble, a full-time study designed for those seeking careers in research and higher education in management sciences.
The Doctoral School is committed to valorizing the intellectual impact of our worldwide community of researchers to support the mission of Grenoble Ecole de Management.
The part-time DBA program at Grenoble Ecole de Management offers senior managers, independent consultants, and academics the opportunity to leverage their careers and/or to make a transition into academia. The DBA is a program for those seeking to link corporate experience to rigorous and relevant research. It connects the business and research communities to enact change and foster progress through original and publishable research work.
GEM has designed a program that fits executives’ needs with the highest quality standards: we see the DBA program as a true research-based degree. From Day 1, participants start working on their research, and the program is designed to ensure that students carry out long-term research projects that are highly relevant to management practice and are based on up-to-date scientific knowledge.

The PhD program at Grenoble Ecole de Management aims to educate junior scholars who will become faculty members in leading international business schools or universities. It is a four to five-year full-time program designed to ensure that very early on, students are involved in research and develop a solid publication record during their PhD studies. This program follows a very hands-on approach to academic careers. From the beginning, PhD students are part of specific research groups and start working on research projects with faculty members.
